Lhasa's economic development makes brilliant achievements since reform and opening up

Over the past 40 years since reform and opening up, the economic aggregate of Lhasa has been increasing and its comprehensive strength has been significantly enhanced. In particular, since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Lhasa has taken the initiative to adapt to, hold on to and lead the new normal of economic development.

A convenient and efficient highway network is gradually formed, becoming the main artery of Lhasa's economic and social development. Rural roads extending in urban and rural areas serve farmers and herdsmen and inject powerful impetus to the economic development.

"With convenient transportation, Tibetan eggs produced by our cooperative can be sold to the market in downtown Lhasa in a timely manner and at a good price," said Thubten Gonpo, a villager of Tangjia Town in Maizhokunggar County, who has come back to his hometown to start a business. He is full of passion and confidence in the market prospect. He also plans to open a agritainment to invite more people to visit his hometown.

"Lhasa's non-public economy has grown from scratch to existence, and from small to large. The market is growing faster and the market mechanism is more and more alive. Lhasa has become a hot place for investment and development," said Liu Meiyan, chairman of Tibet Rose Biotechnology Development co., LTD. that is located in the Dagze Industrial Park.

Since 2013, Lhasa has been vigorously developing the pure land health industry, which not only promotes the rapid economic development of Lhasa, but also lays a solid foundation for ensuring and improving people's livelihood.

After the reform and opening up, Lhasa's economy entered a stage of great development and prosperity, with its GDP exceeding 10 billion yuan in 2006 and 20 billion yuan in 2011. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, economic development in Lhasa has entered a new stage of open and innovative development. In 2013 and 2016, the regional GDP exceeded 30 billion yuan and 40 billion yuan respectively, and reached 47.9 billion yuan in 2017, an increase of 206 times over 1978.

With a new starting point and a new goal, Lhasa is moving towards a new journey and writing a new report with a broader overall vision and a long-term strategic vision.
