"This yak is the logo of our museum, which stems from cliff paintings of Ngari Prefecture. Cliff paintings date back 3,000 years." says Lhadron, a guide working at the Yak Museum of Tibet.

Yak Museum of Tibet, a part of Lhasa Mass Culture and Sport Center, is one of Beijing's aid-Tibet projects, which makes Beijing and Lhasa closer to each other. Occupying an area of over 8,000m², the museum is located in Newu District of Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. It is the only museum themed with yak and yak culture in China.

Yak Museum of Tibet demonstrates yak culture through various ways. It has received over 300,000 visitors ever since its opening to the public on May, 18, 2014. More than 1,000 pieces of treasures have been collected in the museum by the end of last International Museum Day, which falls on May 18 annually. With innovation, the exhibition in the museum not only enhances public cultural service ability, but also meets people's increasing demand for spiritual culture.

"Thanks to the improvement of Lhasa's public cultural service system, there are lots of cultural places for us to visit. My children will know more about yak after this visit." says a visitor at the museum.

The museum holds many large cultural activities. Meanwhile, it has carried out several activities on patriotic education through cooperating with surrounding schools, helping students to know more about the history and culture of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
