Tibet Daily has published a series of reports on the 60th anniversary of the democratic reform in Tibet. This article excerpts the 7th of the reviews.

As a multi-ethnic gathering area, since ancient times, Tibet has been home to dozens of ethnic groups including Tibetan, Han, Hui, Menba, Lhoba, Naxi, etc. Over the past 60 years since the democratic reform, touching and warm stories of ethnic unity have witnessed the deep friendship between cadres and people of all ethnic groups.

Mutual respect and integration

In 1959, the democratic reform brought the feudal serfdom to an end. Over the past 60 years, Tibet has gone through a glorious journey from darkness to light, from backwardness to progress, from poverty to prosperity, from autocracy to democracy, and from isolation to opening up.

Maimaiti, a Uighur businessman from Khotan of Xinjiang, is a regular merchant of the Chomsigkang Wholesale Market in Lhasa City. "My parents did business here when I was young. Counting me in, it has been two generations doing business here." More than 20 years ago, Maimaiti has come to Lhasa with his parents for business and life, and learned to speak fluent Mandarin and Tibetan. After doing business interdependently, with diligence and enthusiasm, his business has been getting better and better, and his dried fruit stalls have increased to 10.

Joint efforts and harmonious development

History of Tibet's development and progress has fully proven that national unification and ethnic unity bring about a well-functioning government, a harmonious society and a prosperous economy.

In recent years, more than 200 planting and breeding households, foregoers, and over 80 farming enterprises have been successively introduced from other cities to Tibet. Over 1,000 masses with professional skills from other provinces of China have been attracted to Tibet and teamed with 3,000 villagers who need help, which have effectively promoted exchanges and integration among ethnic groups, improved production skills and increased villagers' income.

National unity and common progress

For a long time, the Party Committee and People's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region have carried out a series of publicity and education activities on ethnic unity and progress in various forms, which have deepened the connotation of ethnic unity and progress.

By promoting publicity and education activities on Marxist national theory and policy, fighting against separatism, carrying out education on patriotism, socialist core values, "Chinese Dream", as well as the comparation between old Tibet and new Tibet, the sense of national community of Chinese people of all ethnic groups is strengthened.
