Princess Jincheng to be premiered in June this year

The historical stage play Princess Jincheng, a companion piece of the large-scale Tibetan culture epic drama Princess Wencheng, will be premiered at the Princess Jincheng Theatre in China Tibet Cultural Tourism Creative Park in June of this year.

Princess Jincheng lived in Tubo (Tibetan regime in ancient China) for 30 years. She promoted peace and alliance between Tang Dynasty and Tubo, made great contribution to the cultural exchanges. The staging of Princess Jincheng marks far-reaching significance on the protection, inheritance, innovation and development of Tibetan history and culture.

To ensure the smooth performance, actors in the rehearsal of the Princess Jincheng are divided into two groups: cast and crew, including both local Tibetan actors and professional actors from other provinces.

Background: As the largest cultural performance with the highest elevation in China, Princess Wencheng has been staged on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau for 6 years. On the evening of April 20, 2019, the 7th season of Princess Wencheng has resumed performing. This season's performance, from the presentation of details to the arrangement of large scenes, has made more refined adjustments and added the most authentic cultural elements of Tibet, which have made the performance more tension in cultural presentation and more shocking in visual experience.

Princess Wencheng synthetically utilizes the Tang Dynasty's songs and dances as well as best-known artistic forms like Tibetan dance and Tibetan opera. It combines the artificial stages with the natural mountains and rivers, presents the intangible cultural heritage by high-tech means, and integrates the drama, music, dance and modern dance into a magnificent movement, so as to bring China's live-action performance up to a new level. Ever since its premiere in 2013, the drama Princess Wencheng has been performed 1,000 times, witnessed more than 2.1 million audiences with a cumulative income of 770 million yuan RMB.
