Gyangze County of Xigaze City, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, is known as "hometown of Tibetan carpets". Here, reporters meet Tenzin Trinlai who is a young entrepreneur, listening to his story of developing Gyangze Tibetan carpet.

Tenzin Trinlai belongs to the post-90s generation. After graduation from college, he follows his family's advice and is recruited as a civil servant. In the eyes of others, he has a secure job. "But I know I don't want to be like this all the time. I want to do something I really like," says Tenzin Trinlai. Then he sets foot on the hard road of entrepreneurship.

He chooses his most familiar Gyangze Tibetan carpet to start a business.

However, it is not so easy to start a business. There are a series of problems such as lacking of staff, weak technology and narrow sales channels. Instead of giving up, he keeps going on. He does everything by himself. When there are fewer people, he will do the work; when technology is weak, he will learn and explore; when sales channels are narrow, he will contact buyers.

"I am born here and grow up here. I am very familiar with the Gyangze Tibetan carpet," Tenzin Trinlai says, "therefore, I also know that it has entered into a 'dilemma'. What I want to do is to change the dilemma, letting more people know it, understand it, and love it." Local people have always made Tibetan carpet according to traditional ideas, no matter the pattern or color. But the local market is limited and will always be saturated. If products are going to be sold to a larger market, changes must be made.

Tenzin Trinlai says, "it's difficult to achieve 'customization' because of the lack of variety and old colors. So what I'm going to do is combine tradition with innovation."

Breaking the tradition requires great courage and boldness. During this time, he has encountered many difficulties and the locals can not understand what he calls "innovation" until seeing creative new products displayed in front of them. "Gyangze Tibetan carpet has its unique charm, then, how to do the improvement of craft and other aspects without losing its soul is very difficult," Tenzin Trinlai says, "therefore, after more than a year of experiments, we finally succeed in obtaining the 'paper pattern practical technology invention patent'."
