2019 Lhasa Shoton Festival has been held from August 30 to September 5. During the seven-day holiday, Lhasa has received 3.4693 million domestic and foreign tourists, up 20.05% year-on-year. Among them, there are 2,782,400 one-day tourists, up 19.48% year-on-year, and 683,900 overnight tourists, up 22.39% year-on-year. The total tourism revenue has reached 1.213 billion yuan RMB, up 23.65% year-on-year.

The theme of this year's Shoton Festival is "joyous China Shoton, beautiful and happy Lhasa", which incorporates many new highlights. During the festival, Lhasa is full of visitors from various activity places, urban parks, amusement parks and leisure resorts in the suburbs. In particular, the traditional Buddha exhibition at Drepung Monastery attracts many citizens and tourists. In addition, Tibetan opera performed in Dzongyab Lukhang Park, Norbulingka, and Mass Art Gallery, investment promotion meeting held in Inter-Continental Hotel, 13th Namtso Walking Festival, clothing show, traditional equestrian performance, and a series of other rich and colorful activities are carried out, making the tourism market unusually prosperous.

During the Shoton Festival, Lhasa City has made great efforts to develop and cultivate its "festival economy" through the form of "government leading, market operation and enterprise participation", as well as the mode of "culture + sports + tourism + industry", showing tourists the historical culture, ethnic customs, and the achievements of economic and social development in the past 60 years since the democratic reform of Tibet.
