Over the past six months, Tibet received 13.4 million domestic and oversea tourists, generating 14.94 billion yuan RMB in tourism revenue, realizing year-on-year increases of 20.2 % and 19.8% respectively, according to the Tourism Development Department of Tibet Autonomous Region.

The second round of "Winter Tour to Tibet, Sharing the Third Pole of the Earth" was carried out form Jan. 1 to Mar. 15. This activity attracted a total of 1.18 million tourists from home and abroad, up 28.1% from a year ago. Travel agencies in Tibet received 762,000 domestic and foreign tourists, realizing a year-on-year increase of 127%. This year's winter tour in Tibet witnessed the highest number of tourists and the highest year-on-year growth.

Now, rural tourism and leisure tourism are developing rapidly. In the first half of the year, the number of tourists who chose one-day trip in Tibet reached 6.17 million, up 34.9%. One-day trip has become a new tourism brand, attracting more tourists to take part in. During the 2019 Nyingchi Peach Blossom Festival, there was a surge in the number of tourists from Lhasa to Nyingchi; it was even hard to book a room at that time.

In addition, the regional tourism development department is accelerating the opening of regional tourism. Making the inbound tourism easier and simpler is the key point during the process. With the goal of traveling in Tibet easily and conveniently, the region also designs special lanes for tourist vehicles, and sets up "one-card" tour system. Through cooperating with Sichuan, Qinghai, Yunnan and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Tibet actively explores the regional cooperative mechanism on sharing information and market regulation.
