It is reported from Lhasa Tourist Bureau that Lhasa, the capital city of southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, received a record number of 1.7 million visitors during the Shoton Festival, up 21.06 percent year-on-year. Besides, the visitors brought 504 million Yuan (about 79 million U.S. dollars) in tourism revenue, an increase of 33.34 percent compared to the same period of last year.
Such activities as the Sunning of the Buddha, Tibetan opera performance, Thangka expo and the Namtso International Trekking Ceremony in this year’s Shoton Festival are more popular. Tourists swarmed into the plateau city to enjoy and appreciate the grand event, which is considered to be one of the most important festivals on the Tibetan calendar.
During this year’s Shoton Festival, with the variety of the tourism development in Lhasa, the tourism products become more diversified. Self-service and self-driving travel, leisure experience travel and hiking are the most popular in this festival.
