Tibet plans to apply for four national wetland parks

It is reported from Forestry Department of Tibet Autonomous Region that Tibet plans to apply for four national wetland parks that has already been on-the-spot investigated. These wetland parks are located in Chusum County of Shannan Prefecture, Chongye County of Shannan Prefecture, Briru County of Nagqu Prefecture and Lhorong of Chamdo Prefecture.

These four planning wetland parks, covering an area of 15,000 hectares, have five function zones---conservation area, rational using area, recovery area, education area and management service area. Construction of these wetland parks is meaningful for protecting water source and realizing regional sustainable development.

Wetlands serve an important role in nature. They are all mini eco-system and contain a huge diversity of animal and plant life. They take the form of ponds, streams, rivers, bogs and swamps. They also play an important role in the flood defenses of an area. Tibet boasts the highest wetland with the most concentrated distribution. The area of wetland in Tibet reaches 6.529 million hectares, ranking the second in China.
