It is reported from Namtso scenic zone that the mountain pass and road to Namtso lake are not closed as winter comes. Temperatures at the scenic spot keep around 10 C in recent days. It is predicted that the lake and road will be frozen in January.
Usually, at Namtso scenic zone, snow begins every October. However, in this year, there is, as yet, no snow at all. It is estimated that Namtso Lake will get frozen in January, according to An Jingshan, vice manager of Namtso scenic zone.
"Since October, the scenic zone has enjoyed sunny days. The temperature at night is only -4C and -5 C", An said.
At the moment, Namtso scenic zone and Damxung County's Development and Reform Commission have set up a snow-shoveled team. There are more than 30 workers preparing for shoveling snow, aiming to keep traffic smooth after snow. Tourists going to Namtso Lake could call 0891-6110123 for more information about temperature and traffic of the scenic zone.
"Many tourists come to Namtso Lake for wedding photos. I suggest that it is better to take outdoor photos from 12:00 am to 2:00 pm. Because of huge temperature gap between day and night, tourists need to keep warm", An said.
Namtso Lake is about 250km northwest from Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. Being the second largest saltwater lake in China only after Qinghai Lake, Namtso is the biggest lake in Tibet. Meanwhile, it is the highest altitude saltwater lake in the world.
