Mount Qomolangma Post Office put into use

Recently, the Mount Qomolangma Post Office, which is the highest post office in the world, has been put into use at the Everest Base Camp of Shigatse City, Tibet Autonomous Region.

Previously, the Mount Qomolangma Post Office is a temporary post office that is sued to provide postal communications services for passing the Olympic torch in April, 2008. Covering an area of 24 square meters and with an elevation of 5200 meters, it is located at the Everest Base Camp of Dingri County, Shigatse City. The straight-line distance from the post office to the summit of Mount Qomolangma is about 19 kilometers. The operating time is from April, 15 to October 15 every year. Apart from selling all kinds of post cards, philatelic items, and souvenirs, it also provides letter and express package services. In addition, it offers drinking water and rest services for tourists for free.

The Mount Qomolangma Post Office emphasizes ecological environmental protection. Its construction materials are all eco-friendly and detachable materials. Apart from providing universal postal services, it also introduces Mount Qomolangma's natural scenery, historical culture, ecological protection, and weather information to tourists.
