According to the Publicity Department of Damxung County, the opening ceremony of 2019 Damxung "Dangjiren" Horse Racing Festival will be held at the racecourse in Damxung County on August 8. The festival, which lasts for 7 days, is an annual event for local herders and has a history of more than 300 years.

In 2008, "Dangjiren" Horse Racing Festival was enlisted in the national intangible cultural heritage list, becoming the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage projects in Damxung, and also becoming one of the important brand activities of Lhasa Shoton Festival.

The traditional "Dangjiren" Horse Racing Festival takes long-distance horse running, mid-distance horse running, short-distance horse running, horse walking, horse archery, picking hada on horse and so on as the main athletics content. With the development of society, the horse racing festival has also added a number of artistic activities in recent years, such as Guozhuang dance, holding stones, tug-of-war, yak racing, costume performance and so on.

2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, elements of which will be incorporated into this year's horse racing festival. Different from previous years, the stage effect and performance content of this year's performance will be comprehensively upgraded, the "10 outstanding herdsmen in Damxung County" will be selected at the event site, and excellent enterprises will be awarded.

"Dangjiren" Horse Racing Festival is a main brand of cultural tourism industry integrating the dissemination of folk culture, the promotion of sports competition, the development of leisure tourism, and the exchange of exhibition and sales materials. It is a folk sports competition with national and regional characteristics. During this year's horse racing festival, some outstanding e-commerce enterprises from cities outside Tibet will also be invited to cooperate and promote the unique tourism resources and featured products of Damxung to the whole country and even the world.
