In recent years, Tibet has been actively intensifying efforts to protect environment. Through promoting the green development, circular development and low-carbon development, Tibet's environment is greatly improved. The number of wild animals is gradually growing and Tibet has also become a paradise for all kinds of migratory birds. At present, Tibet is the world's largest overwintering habitat for black-necked cranes. The number of black-necked cranes has grown from 5,700 to more than 14,000 today, accounting for 80% of the total number in the whole world.
The black-necked crane is first-class state-level key protected wild animal. It is a kind of crane that is endemic to the plateau and it is one of the endangered species in the world.
In November each year, migratory birds will fly to Tibet to live through the winter. Now, in the nature reserve of Linzhou County, Lhasa City, black-necked cranes are inhabiting here together with many other rare waterfowls such as bar-headed goose, tadorna ferruginea, green-winged teal, anas platyrhynchos and so on.
