In recent years, Tibet's tourism develops very fast. In contrast to high altitude areas such as Ngari Prefecture and Shigatse City, Nyingchi is favored by tourists because of its lower altitude and beautiful scenery. Basum Lake, located in Gongbo'gyamda County, Nyingchi Prefecture, attracts a lot of tourists in and outside Tibet.

According to Tashi Phuntsok, director of Gongbo'gyamda Tourism Bureau, Gongbo'gyamda County received 520000 tourists in 2014, while Basum Lake received 164000 tourists, accounting for 31.5% of this county’s total tourists. Basum  Lake is the main power of Gongbo'gyamda County’s tourism industry.

With the aim of becoming the national 5A scenic spot in 2016, Basum Lake will deepen the development of ecological tourism industry and improve its soft and hard facilities.
