It is reported from Shigatse’s Tourism Administration that 3.2 million tourists from home and abroad are projected to Shigatse, southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region in 2015, generating 2.8 bln yuan in revenue.

According to Phurbu Tashi, director of Shigatse’s Tourism Administration, in recent years, groups from Shigatse visited the 11th Tourism Expo between Mainland and Taiwan, the 7th International Tourist Commodities’ Expo and other tourism promotions. Besides, with the help from Shanghai, the tourism promotion was rebuilt in Shigatse. There are also some tourism promotions held by Shigatse on the Internet, papers and even outside China’ s Tibet.What’s more, Shigatse widely publicized its rich and age-old folk cultures during the National Day holidays and other festivals, attracting many tourists traveling to Shigatse. 

In addition, the Lhasa- Shigatse railway that have already come into service promotes the development of tourism industry. In the first nine months of 2015, Shigatse welcomed 647 thousand day-trip tourists, a year-on-year increase of 70 percent.
