Tibet is scaling new heights with this year's ten-day mountaineering course in Lhasa.
An Alpine Vocational Skills Training Course is under way at the Tibet Mountaineering School of Lhasa, the capital city of the Tibet autonomous region, in preparation for next year’s spring mountaineering season.
Tibet initiated the training in 2008 and since then it has been growing both in the scale and quality. Climbers find the training very useful in widening their knowledge, the school said.
Professionals in the fields of alpine filming, medicine, meteorology, environmental protection, and wild rescue have been invited to teach the classes.
More than 100 mountaineering practitioners, including participants from the China Tibet Mountaineering Association, Tibet Mountaineering Team, and Tibet Himalaya Expedition Co, are attending.
"The training is an update and an improvement to the mountaineering related knowledge the students learned in the past," said Tsering Tandar, 28, of the Tibet Mountaineering Team.
Along with the professional mountaineers, experts and scholars in the area of outdoor sports were invited as well, Tsering said.
"Such training activities will help Tibet improve the caliber of its sports industry, and accelerate the plateau’s special sports industry," Tsering said.
