Tibet sees over 20 mln tourists a whole year

It is reported from Xinhua that with the development of tourism, Tibet received a record number of over 20 million tourists in 2015, generating more than 28 billion yuan in tourism revenue, which is higher than the records of past years.

The number of tourists from both home and abroad to Tibet in 2014 reached 15.53 million, with overall tourism revenue of 20.4 billion yuan, figures from Tourism Development Committee of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. 

In the past nine months of this year, Tibet welcomed 17.47 million tourists, a 36 percent rise on the same period of 2014, generating 22.8 billion yuan in tourist revenue, up 39.5 percent year-on-year.

Since the beginning of this year, various tourist activities have been held in all parts of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, attracting a large number of tourists to Tibet. For example, Nyingchi Peach Blossom Festival, Shannan Yarlung Culture Festival, Shigatse Mt. Qomolangma Festival and Tibet Tourism and Culture Expo promote the development of Tibet’s tourism industry.

Although the off-season of Tibet tourism comes, tourists enjoy lots of preferential policies. Many scenic spots’ tickets are half price. Besides, the tickets of coach, train and flight are given discount. Prices of accommodation in some hotels are also having privileges. In order to attract tourists in winter, tourism department of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region markets nine routes for winter travel to Tibet.
