Lhalu Wetland, located on the outskirts of Lhasa, the capital of southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, is known as the “ Lung of Lhasa“.Lhalu Wetland is a relatively well-preserved alpine natural wetland ecosystem and it plays an important role in maintaining the ecological balance, retaining the biodiversity, increasing the air humidity and influencing the climate of Lhasa. It also provides important habitats for various animals.

In 1999, the government of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region set up the Lhalu Wetland Natural Reserve Area. In August of 2005, it was listed as a national reserve.
Lhalu Wetland is a relatively well-preserved alpine natural wetland ecosystem and it plays an important role in maintaining the ecological balance, retaining the biodiversity, increasing the air humidity and influencing the climate of Lhasa. The wetland is home to a myriad of insects and wildlife such as precious black-necked cranes, tadorna ferruginea and bar-headed goose. Thousands of migratory birds arrive for a winter stay every November and leave in April. Lhalu Wetland is a relatively well-preserved alpine natural wetland ecosystem and it plays an important role in maintaining the ecological balance, retaining the biodiversity, increasing the air humidity and influencing the climate of Lhasa. It also provides important habitats for various animals.

In recent years, related regional departments put more efforts on the protection of Lhalu Wetland, which greatly improved its environment with higher water coverage rate and larger plant coverage areas.
