It is reported from Sports Bureau of Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) that in 13th Five-Year Plan, taking advantage of rich natural resources and good physique of the local, TAR accelerates the development of winter sports, promoting sports industry and national fitness cause comprehensively.

With the background of 2020 Winter Olympics hosted by Beijing and Zhang Jiakou, the number of winter sport-lovers is increasing greatly. TAR’s sports industry, focusing on mountain outdoor sports, provides a good opportunity for the development of winter sports. Currently, a skin resort is planned to be built in Lhasa, the capital of southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. Alpine skiing is expected to be the new growth point in TAR’s winter sports.

As the increasing awareness of keeping health, national fitness in winter is gradually popular. In the New Year’s Day, the climbing activity held in Lhasa  attracted more than 1,000 people to participate. Besides, square dancing, leisure bicycling and other sports suitable for winter will be held.
