Recently, peonies cultivated by Tibet’s Academy of Agricultural Sciences are in full bloom. About 100,000 peonies are planted, occupying an area of 10 mu (about 0.6 hectares).
Peony, known as “the king of flowers”, is the symbol of grace and luxury. In terms of colors, there are more than 3,000 species. “Tibet, boasting large wasteland and arid climate, is suitable for growing peonies. Just Paeonia rockii, one kind of peony that we planted has more than 100 species,” Dr. Zeng said. These peonies are mainly used in sightseeing, medicine and essential oil.
