Featured towns promote development of urbanization

The year of 2016 is the second year for the construction of featured towns' pilots. At the moment, 53 items of featured towns' pilots in Tibet have started building, completing an investment of 560 million yuan. Since the beginning of featured towns' pilots construction, 3.162 billion yuan has been poured into the construction of featured towns' pilots, 2.22 billion yuan of which has been invested into Lunam town, Nyingchi of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

Since the reform and opening-up in 1978, towns in China have developed rapidly. A batch of featured towns with huge potential emerged, promoting local economic and social development. Experts said that featured towns represents low-cost urbanization, which is beneficial for the coordinated growth of population, resources and biology.

In 2015, China's Tibet had started the construction of featured towns' pilots and decided to build a batch of featured towns. These featured towns located along rivers or the border can push forward the development of Tibet's modern industries and poverty alleviation.

Building featured towns is an important engine to develop economic development and narrow the gap between rural areas and cities. It is also a good way to improve local farmers' living standards.
