Two scenic spots in Tibet approved as national 5A tourist attractions

On September 8, in Tibet's Nyingchi City, the National Tourism Administration announced that the Basum Lake Scenic Spot and Tashilhunpo Monastery Scenic Spot were approved to be national 5A tourist attractions. So far, there are 4 national 5A tourist attractions in Tibet, which helps Tibet to build the important world tourist destination.

Basum Lake is also named Conggo Lake. It is located in Gongpo gyamda County of Nyingchi City, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. The lake-surface elevation is over 3400 meters and its area is about 37 square kilometers. In 1994, Basum Lake was awarded as national famous scenic site and it was included in the world tourist attractions by World Tourism Organization at the same time.

Tashilhunpo Monastery is located in Tibet's Shigatse City. The floor area is 700,000 square meters and building area is 460,000 square meters. It is national key cultural relics protection unit. In addition, it is also one of the six big Gelug monasteries of Tibetan Buddhism and the preaching place of Panchen Lamas.

Wang Songping, director of the Tibet Tourism Development Committee, introduces that now Tibet has four 5A tourist attractions, namely Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Basum Lake, and Tashilhunpo Monastery. Basum Lake is the first 5A ecological natural scenic spot, which will drive the development of Tibet's ecological tourism.

Tibet is blessed with the advantages and conditions of developing tourism. In recent 5 years, the comprehensive tourism service ability and level has been improved fast. From 2012 to 2016, the tourist number and tourism revenue of Tibet Autonomous Region has been enhanced from 10 million personnel and 12 billion yuan to 23 million personnel and 33 billion yuan respectively.
