Over the past five years, China's Tibet has made remarkable progress in transport development with total mileage of roads increasing by 24,306 km. By the end of 2017, Tibet had 89,504 km of roads.
Seven high-grade highways opened to traffic during the past five years. The total length of roads with the first-class or better reached 660 km in Tibet. The mileage of national and provincial roads in Tibet grew from 11,955 km in 2012 to 28,922 km today.
Accelerating the construction of rural roads plays a critical role in poverty alleviation. Over the past five years, 1,325 of 3,005 new rural road projects in Tibet have been built.
According to the official figures, over the past five years, in Tibet, fixed investment in transport has reached 146.33 billion yuan, with an average annual increase of 47.3 percent. The fixed investment in transport has surpassed 68 billion yuan in 2018. The total mileage of rural roads in Tibet is 60,000 km today.
