The 2019 Lhasa Half Marathon will kick off on Aug. 18 in Lhasa City, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, according to the press conference of Lhasa Half Marathon. This year's marathon consists of three activities: half marathon (21.0975 km), 10-km run and 5-km health run. The number of participants increases from 3,200 inlast year to 5,000 in this year. This year's marathon route starts from Zhouji Hotel Square in front of the Lhasa Municipal Government to the Potala Palace Square. The destination of health run is set on Binhe Road.
"The 2019 Lhasa Half Marathon Organizing Committee with nine departments has been founded for the preparation of race, such as competition office, safety office, health care office and others. Currently, the preparation work goes on well," says Yin Peifeng, deputy secretary general of Lhasa Municipal Government.
With the mode of "sports + culture + tourism", Lhasa Half Marathon fully reflects Lhasa's cultural and tourism resources, investment environment and new visage of the city. Building "highland marathon" brand greatly propels the promotion of Lhasa's outdoors sports tourism. It also contributes to developing sports industry rapidly, upgrading cultural tourism, enhancing the region's economic and social development, as well as building a world's important tourism destination.
