Tibet sets standards for cultural industry with regional features

Tibet Regional Culture Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tibet Regional Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, with an aim to reach a consensus on the standardization for cultural industry with local characteristics.

With the signing of the document, the cultural industry with Tibetan characteristics has entered a new stage. The MOU includes cultural tourism, Thangka, Tibetan medicine, handicraft and Tibetan costume.

Thanks to the national rich cultural resources, local companies develop the national culture into the cultural industry, which promotes economic growth. According to statistics from the cultural department, the output value of cultural industry with Tibetan characteristics has exceeded four billion yuan. Almost 0.4 million people are engaged in cultural industry in Tibet.

Due to its late starting, Tibet's cultural industry with local features is in the initial stage. The establishment of canonical standardization system of cultural industry with local features will promote the development of cultural industry more scientifically, said a senior official with the Tibet Regional Cultural Department.

Thangka, a traditional style of Tibetan Buddhist scroll painting, has been thriving in recent years. The standards improve the quality of work and accelerate the development of the industry. According to the survey, there are more than 2,000 Thangka painters in Tibet. Thousands of exquisite Thangka pieces are created each year. Thangka has become an epitome of the flourishing Tibet's cultural industry with local characteristics.
