The first Lhasa Tibetan opera performance season hosted by Tibet regional cultural department, Lhasa’s regional government and cultural bureau kicked off in Dzongyab Lukhang of Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region on May 12. This activity will last till the end of August.

More than 450 Tibetan opera performers of excellent folk troupes selected from Lhasa's eight counties (districts) stage performances during the period of the season. This activity, echoing for 2018 Cultural and National Heritage Day, is an important step for enriching people's spiritual life and strengthening the protection and heritage of cultural relics.

Tibetan opera, one of Tibetan cultural treasures, enjoys a history of more than a thousand years. It has been put on UNESCO's World Heritage List and hailed as "the living fossil of traditional Tibetan culture".
