From yak caravans to 5G: A centennial leap in the life of nomadic herders in Xizang's Nagqu

For decades, a revolution has been unfolding on the 4,500-meter-high Tibetan Plateau in northern Xizang. The ancient salt routes traversed by yaks have been replaced by asphalt highways, while the smoke rising from black tents now stands side by side with 5G base stations. From salt routes to highways, from nomadic tents to modern dwellings, Nagqu has accomplished the leap from traditional survival to modern civilization within three generations.
