Along China's national highways G219 and G559 in Zayu County, Xizang Autonomous Region, lies a spectacular geological wonder - the fluted rock formations of the Sangqu River. Over countless millennia, the river's persistent flow has sculpted these rocks into smooth, rounded formations with a lustrous, ink-painting-like patina. These unique features are actually glacial potholes, remnants of ancient glacial activity dating back millions of years. Geological studies indicate these potholes were formed through a combination of glacial erosion and subsequent fluvial polishing. The optimal viewing periods are during the dry seasons of spring, autumn, and winter when water levels recede to reveal the full magnificence of these formations.
