In Damxung, which sits at an average altitude of over 4,200 meters, yak breeding has shifted from experience-based judgment to whole-genome precision selection; grazing withdrawal and grassland restoration have brought clear lakes, abundant water, and revived meadows; and elevated photovoltaic panels have created a vertical industry of sheep grazing beneath the panels. As of the end of August 2026, Damxung County had received 567,700 tourist visits, up 39.66% year on year, and generated tourism revenue of 92.09 million yuan (RMB) (about US$13.7 million), up 13.65% year on year.
