In 2014, Tibet received 15.53 million tourists and its annual tourism revenue hit 20 billion yuan RMB, increasing 20% and 23% respectively, according to the 3rd session of the 10th TAR People's Congress.

Cooperated with the Ministry of Culture and National Tourism Administration, the TAR government held an international tourism expo in September, 2014 with the aim of promoting Tibet's tourism image. The Jokhang Temple was named as the national 5A class scenic spot.

To let tourists enjoy the unique plateau scenery and cultural charm of Tibet, the region's tourism sectors promoted seven "special travel routes" in 2014. In addition, travel agents also promoted the Tibetan New Year travel route to let tourists experience the Tibetan culture. A series of other traditional Tibetan festivals were also promoted which attracted a large number of tourists.

Last year, Tibet's tourism sectors also launched some activities to rectify and standardize the tourism market. Travel agents were punished for unfair competition. Tour guides who flouted regulations or were involved in deception were punished too. This is good for creating a good tourism environment.
