At present, there are 4277 unmovable cultural relics sites including ancient ruins, buildings and tombs in Tibet, among which the number of national key cultural relics protection units reaches 55, according to the Cultural Relics Bureau of Tibet Autonomous Region.
Sangpo, director of the Cultural Relics Bureau of Tibet Autonomous Region, says that Tibet has 4277 registered cultural relics sites and 1424 cultural relics protection units. Thereinto, there are 55 national key cultural relics protection units, 391 autonomous region level cultural relics protection units and 978 county level cultural relics protection units.
There are 3 world cultural heritages in Tibet, namely the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Norbulingka. In addition, Lhasa City, Shigatse City and Gyangze County are listed as national level historical and cultural cities. Changzhu Town and Sagya Town are national level historical and cultural towns. Bangxing Village, Tunda Village and Conggo Village are national level historical and cultural villages. Barkhor Street is national level historical and cultural street.
China pays great attention to the cultural relics protection work in Tibet. During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, with an investment of 1.009 billion yuan RMB, 40 key cultural relics protection units and 6 museums in prefectures (cities) in Tibet were maintained and reconstructed by the nation. From 2001 to 2015, with an investment of over 2 billion yuan RMB, the nation carried out a series of maintenance and protection work for Tibet’s cultural relics.
So far, among 40 key cultural relics protection projects of the 12th Five-Year Plan, 14 projects including Mindroling Monastery have been completed, accounting for 35% of the total number of key cultural protection units in Tibet.
Recently, the cultural relics collection survey of state owned units have been completed by the Census Office of Tibet Autonomous Region. According to the statistics, there are 1295 state-owned cultural relics collection units in Tibet.
To scientifically make the 13th Five-Year Plan, preparatory work including ancient towers protection project, patriotic historic relics protection project, archaeological protection project and so on has begun.
