The basic public health services in Tibet

In 2014, the basic public health service fees of per capita in Tibet reached 45 yuan RMB, 10 yuan RMB higher than the national average level, according to the Health and Family Planning Commission of Tibet Autonomous Region.

The 3rd round of free health checks for rural and urban citizens, enlisted monks and nuns were carried out in 2014. About 2.76 million people took part in this checks and 4471 cataract patients accepted free treatments. Children’s congenital heart disease screening and treatment were included in the regular work of major public health services.

The basic public health services are provided by basic medical and health institutions such as diseasepreventionandcontrol organizations, urban community health service centers and township health center. It is a public welfare measure and its main function is to prevent and control diseases.

Tibet strengthens the monitoring of major infectious diseases. Last year, the incidence of infectious diseases was 340.18/100000, and death rate was 0.74/100000. The survey of Kashin-Beck disease was also conducted. In addition, rural environmental hygiene and drinking water health surveillance projects were carried out to improve people’s living environment.

In 2014, with an investment of 140 million yuan RMB, county-level maternity and child care institutions and pediatric capacity building projects were carried out. Counties with children's nutrition improvement projects increased to 35 and 15000 children were benefited.

The implement of basic and major public health service projects will effectively prevent and treat various diseases. In 2015, the basic public health service fees of per capita in Tibet will reach 50 yuan RMB.
