Tibet: 7 works on ancient books survey being published

7 works include 5 categories on Tibetan ancient books and 2 books on protecting ancient books are going to be published on July or August of this year, according to Penpa Tsering, deputy director of the T.A.R. Library. The 7 works providing experience for reference are carefully proofread in T.A.R. Press currently.

China’s Tibet Autonomous Region is the birthplace of Tibetan ancient books, 2/3 of millions of Tibetan ancient books are collected in T.A.R. while 90% of them are enshrined in monasteries and 10% of them are scattered in libraries, institutions, archives, museums and folk families.

Currently, Nagri, Nagchu and Nyingchi have finished their general surveys on Tibetan ancient books, Lhasa and Shannan have completed 90%, and Chamdo and Shigatse will carry out this work in this year. Statistic shows thet there are 2200 ancient books in Nagri, 20001 in Nagchu and 200 in Nyingchi.
