Huge slumping block on road to Gyirong Port is cleared

A huge slumping block weighted more than 80 tons along the road linking Gyirong County and Gyirong Port has been cleared on May 4, 2015. The Second Armed Police Traffic Team of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region has further accelerated the speed of making passage for lives afterward, and the section is able to be gotten through by rescuing vehicles.

The road linking Gyirong County and Gyirong Port is totally 27 km long. After the strong shock happened in Nepal, 27 landslide points appeared along the road. Among them, the point marked as K81 suffered the most severe landslide. The slumping block reached 375 m long and 35 m thick, its total amount has reached 2.7 million m³.

According to calculation, the left slumping blocks need to be cleared are about 200 thousand m³. As the landslides happened in plateau gorge, large machineries find great difficulties during the clear jobs.

Up to May 4, 2015, the road has temporarily capable of prevailing conditions for vehicle passage.
