On May 29, the first students catering center in Tibet was established and begun to operate, which will deliver nutrition lunches to nearly 30000 students in 15 primary and middle schools in Lhasa.
Every morning at 7 o’clock, food materials will be classified, washed and disinfected by workers in this catering center. At 10 o’clock, 4 chefs begin to cook. At 12 o’clock, prepared food will be delivered to schools for students.
“To ensure that students can eat delicious and nutritious food, we arrange every day’s dishes in accordance with the menu made by professional nutritionists and then some adjustments will be made according to students' tastes,” says Mima Tsering, a chef of this catering center.
Students in agricultural and pastoral areas all enjoy the “three guarantees (namely eating, living, and studying fees)” and “students’ nutrition lunch” policies. In addition, every school is equipped with canteen, so there is no food supply problem for students in agricultural and pastoral areas. As for students in Lhasa city, the food supply problem has not been able to solve because of many reasons such as scattered campuses and limited space conditions.
After visiting and tasting this catering center’s food, a student’s parent says “The operation is very professional here and food is healthy and delicious, which can solve children’s lunch issue and we parents feel relived.”
According to Kelsang Tsering, director of this catering center, follow-up surveys will be carried out for lunch delivery’svarious links to meet students’ needs. During the trial running period, this center can provide nearly 3000 students’ lunches. In the future, the scale and delivery range will be expanded to gradually solve the lunch problem of all students in Lhasa City.
