From 2010 to now, Tibet has invested 130 million yuan RMB in the drinking water safety of urban residents. The environmental protection project of 101 drinking water sources has been carried out, which covers 10 counties (prefectures) in Tibet.
Tibet covers a vast geographic area and its towns are scattered. What’s more, its water source is not balanced and the backup water source is scarce. Statistics show that Tibet implemented 19 towns’ centralized drinking water protection projects with an investment of 26.346 million yuan last year, and 31 towns’ projects passed the inspection and acceptance. With an investment of 30 million yuan RMB, the drinking water protection projects of 300 villages in 20 key towns were carried out.
Tibet will carry out the environmental quality monitoring e of surface water for 74 counties (prefectures) every year. As for the 4 centralized drinking water sources in Lhasa, it will be monitored one time one month. As for other prefectures or cities in Tibet, the monitoring is one time one year, while the counties’ monitoring is irregular.
Thanks to various departments’ cooperation, the main pollutants’ emission of local waste water always complies with the national standards. Last year, the total emission of COD was 27917 tons andNH3-N was 3441 tons, all of which are controlled within the national approved scope.
It is said that the water quality of main rivers and lakes in Tibet all keep good conditions and are up to relevant national environmental quality standards.
