Accodrding to Yang Juelin, assistant secretary of the China Railway Erju Ltd. (CREC), construction of the Lhasa-Nyingchi highway has completed 90%. Building work on the subgrade, bridges, cilverts and tunnels is all finished, yet the principal part is hopefully to be completed in this month and greening, traffic safety facilities as well as other items of appurtenant work will be done before August in this year.
Construction of the Lhasa-Nyingchi highway has been divided into Lhasa and Nyingchi sections of the highway since the beginning of this project, the building work has been started from both ends in accordance with the standard planning and design of Grade A highways and the principle of constructing in both sections. The designed speed on the highway is 80km per hour; with subgrade width of 24.5/21.5 m which is enough for 4 lanes.
Whole length of the highway is 409.2 km, and is believed that it will save at least 3 hours for travelers.
