Northern shore of Yarlung Zangbo River in Tibet: sand desert changing into an oasis

In southwest  China ’s Tibet Autonomous Region, both shores of the YarlungZangboRiver are sand source areas of major sandstorm disasters. In recent years, ShannanPrefecture in Tibet has completed 2.47 thousand acres of sand control and reforestation along the northern shore of the YarlungZangboRiver and finished nearly 4.94 thousand acres of sand blocking and reforestation, making the old sand disaster deserts an oasis.

With the deepening of sand reforestation project, a large area of shifting sand dunes has become semi stabilized or stabilized dunes. Desertification areas are decreasing year by year, and water conservation capacity is enhanced significantly.
