The traditional Tibetan calligraphy art works

Xingqiang(Star wall) is a Tibetan transliteration, referring to traditional Tibetan calligraphy writing tablets which are made of wood.On July 18, the First Star Wall Culture and Art Exhibition, sponsored by

Shengcheng Bookstore and co-sponsored by “Tibet Human Geography” Magazine, took place in Lhasa.

During opening of Shengcheng Bookstore, the exhibition shall introduce cultural value, current situation and the inheritance situation of Star Wall art inTibetto the public for the first time.

Except for the traditional star wall, this exhibition has also displayed extended works of star wall art.

Writing pen is generally made by cutting the bamboos. According to different font sizes, the thickness of bamboo pole is decided. The “ink” is generally a mixture of kitchen soot and water. Under the guidance of the teacher, students sat cross legged, dipped in ink and practiced Tibetan alphabets carefully. After finishing the writing, this board shall be washed, dried, and painted white, and then it can be continuously to be used for practice. This kind ofTibetcalligraphy practice method is economical, practical, and unique.

Tibet Star Wall culture scholars Negro said that Tibetans regard Tibetan calligraphy as foundation of knowledge and learning, and as a Tibetan widespread calligraphy practice tool, Star Wall is a deep cultural and historical heritage and has unique usage value which forms a unique cultural form ofTibet. He believes that by hosting the event, it will bring along more people to love and inherit the Tibetan wall star culture which has existed for hundreds of years.
