With a history of 2,300 years, Tibetan medicine, also known as Sowa Rigpa in Tibetan language, has absorbed the essence of traditional Chinese, Indian and Arab medicine and is used in Tibet and the Himalayan region. Menling County, “the kingdom of Tibetan medicine”, enjoys more than 80 percent of herbs in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. In the 8th century, the first Tibetan medicine school was built in Menling County where was considered as the origin of Tibetan medicine.

Menling County, a mysterious and fantastic land, is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. Boasting the convenient geographic location and benign climate, Menling influenced by the warm wet air of the India Ocean has 3,500 kinds of natural vegetation and wild animals such as macaques, pheasants and wild boars. 

“ Until the May,2015, Menling County have had 8 Tibetan medicine processing enterprises such as Tibet Medicine Industrial Co., Ltm, Nyingchi JU Bang Biotechnology Co., Ltm, Gonpo Ngabo Medicine Plant Co., Ltm and 2 Tibetan Medicine plant cooperatives. Menling County Party Committee and local government attached great importance to the development of Tibet Medicine. Tibet medicine industry is the major experimental point in terms of the reform of dominant industries and rural reform. Through the implementation of effective measures, Menling County was transformed into a comprehensive base for dissemination of science on Tibetan medicine, Tibetan medicine plant and processing, Tibetan medicine trade, vacation spot and the place for cultural heritage” said by authorities of Menling’s Internet Watchdog, Nyingchi, southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.

According to the authorities of Menling Party Committee, Menling will enlarge the scale of Tibetan Medicine plant steadily and built a comprehensive trading center including Tibetan medicine production, processing and sales. There will be a scale of 10,000 mu ( 1 mu = =0.0667 hectares ) Tibetan medicine planting area.

Based on the Nanyigou, southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, Menling County develops the building of Tibetan Medicine Industrial Park. The museum of Tibetan medicine and the plant are of Tibetan medicine in this park, under the construction now, will be completed in this year. Before 2025, with enterprise-style management, Tibetan Medicine Industrial Park will be built and operated by integrative operation. With the transportation network of railway, airport and highway,Tibetan medicine, as the main production of planting industry in Menling County, will be traded through modern E-commerce center that provides the financial service and quality assessment, which makes Menling the national Tibetan medicine distribution center.  In addition, though the combination of the Tibetan medicine industry with the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon and Nanyigou scenic spot, Menling County will develop some new projects such as the physical experience, Tibetan medicine regimen and the sightseeing of Tibetan medicine in order to become the cultural tourism resort of Tibetan medicine enjoying the unique Menling characteristics and national customs.
