Tourism revenue in Shigatse totaled RMB 1.8b in the first nine months

Recently, it is reported from Shigatse Travel Bureau that 2.027 million tourists from home and abroad have traveled in Shigatse, southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region from January to September this year, generating 1.8 bln yuan in revenue.

Affected by the "4 · 25" earthquake, tourist industry of Shigatse is down slightly this year. However, with rich and unique tourism sources like geographical condition, human landscape and folk culture, the development of Shigatse tourist industry is good on the whole.

According to Shigatse Travel Bureau, Shigatse has held a series of tourism promotions in and outside of Tibet Autonomous Region to eliminate the tourists’ worries and attract them to travel here. There are also some tourism promotions held on the Internet, magazines, papers and even outdoor advertising. 

In addition, Shigatse widely publicized its rich and age-old folk cultures during the National Day holidays and other festivals, attracting many tourists to travel in Shigatse. What is more, the Lhasa- Shigatse railway, which has already come into service, promotes the development of tourism industry as well. In the first nine months of 2015, Shigatse welcomed 647 thousand day-trip tourists, a year-on-year increase of 70 percent.

According to information, only during the Mt. Qomolangma Culture Tourism Festival, Shigatse welcomed more than 100 thousand tourists at home and abroad, up 33 percent year-on-year, generating 8.697 mln yuan in revenue. During the National Day holidays, Shigatse welcomed 99 thousand tourists at home and abroad, up 16 percent year-on-year, generating 5.507 mln yuan in revenue.
