In recent years, with the fast development of economy, Qamdo consistently takes environmental conservation as the bottom line, lifeline, high tension line and warning line of development in order to give great impetus to returning the grain plots to forestry, land desertification controlling and natural forest resources protection. Since the “12th Five-Year Plan”, a accumulative total of 642,200 mu artificial afforestation and 134,000 mu forest reservation have been completed,  increasing forest coverage in Qamdo to 38.63%.
