During recent 3 years, Chamdo City of southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region has been putting great effort on old city reconstruction and urban infrastructure construction, in order to upgrade the old city into a developed, prosperous, civilized, featured and fully furnished one.
According to Huo Yingzhang, the head of Chamdo Bureau of Housing and Urban Construction, traffic jam in the city has been largely eased, modern water supply and drainage channels as well as fire engine access was also built within the 3 years, “Newly built public squares and parks, multiple roads and other urban facilities have provided local citizens with more convenience and better life.” Huo says.
According to Huo’s introduction, this old city reconstruction project has received a total investment of 7 billion yuan RMB and expanded the city’s urban built-up area into 16.5 km² from an original area of 4.6 km² in 2011 (1 km² equals 10000 are) . Besides, more than 1300 households have moved out of their mud-brick houses and lived in warm and commodious new buildings.
