China is Nepal's second largest source of tourists, but the tourism industry has been largely affected by an earthquake in April, 2015. The waiving of the visa fees is reported as a move to try to boost the tourism industry in Nepal.

Chinese tourists can now enjoy visa services free of charge in the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing and consulates in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Lhasa.

Chinese tourists can choose to obtain a visa to stay in Nepal for 15, 30 or 90 days. The fee waiver policy will save up to some $102 for each Chinese tourist.
