Air passengers in Tibet tops three mln in 2015

According to the statistics from Tibet Autonomous Region Civil Aviation, Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China saw a record 3.63 million air passengers in 2015, up 15.2 percent from the previous year. The air traffic is becoming more and more busy.

According to the statistics, Tibet Civil Aviation has introduced 5 airlines and opened 42 new air routes during the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”. The number of cities linked to Tibet via air rose by 23. The number of flights in Tibet achieves 131,000 and total cargo throughput reaches 105,000 tons. All these not only can bring Tibet closer to the world, but also make Tibet Civil Aviation an important driver for the economic development of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

During the period of the 13th Five-Year Plan, Tibet will develop air express routes between Lhasa and Chengdu, and will open more air routes to other domestic cities, especially to the cities of aid-Tibet provinces.
