Lhasa changes form tourism city to leisure city

In recent years, it is popular that more and more tourists begin to come to Lhasa for the second time or more regularly, marking that Lhasa is gradually changing from a tourism city to a leisure city.

At present, the fast comprehensive transportation system that combines aviation, railway and highway has been preliminarily established in Lhasa. The hardware facilities and software service abilities in the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Namtso and other famous scenic spots are also being  improved annually. In addition, with the fast development of service industry including catering industry and accommodation industry,  tourism service industry is becoming more standardized. Tourist reception capacity is enhanced and the quality is improved, laying a solid foundation for Tibet to attract more tourists.

Only in the National Day, Lhasa received 798700 tourists and realized a tourism revenue of 341 million yuan.

To develop tourism industry with the aim of creating leisure city, it requires to consider not only how to attract tourists but also how to attract tourists to travel regularly.

Therefore, tourism products must be updated constantly. In recent years, a series of festivals including China Tibet Tourism and Culture Expo, Lhasa Shoton Festival and Walking in the Sunlight City were held successfully, adding culture temperament to Lhasa. A batch of projects such as rural picking and rural tourism were launched smoothly, increasing tourists' experience and participation degree.

As Lhasa City's functions are improved continuously, citizens' entertainment chooses are also increasing. With the fast development of catering industry, citizens can enjoy food from all over the country.

Exhibitions on calligraphy, painting, photography and intangible cultural heritages will be held in Tibet Museum, Tibet Library and Mass Art Center irregularly. In addition, Lhasa Mass Cultural and Sports Center is established. Many family hotels in old town district highlight scale and characteristic operation. Many stars begin to hold concerts in Lhasa. All the above phenomenon show that Lhasa is becoming a leisure city.

To further explore Lhasa's leisure features, its culture will be deeply integrated with tourism. With an investment of 12.6 billion yuan, world-class ecological wetland central park is planed to be built along the both side of Lhasa River. This park will cover an area of 124 hectares and the building area is 1.67 million square meters. It integrates tourist resort, cultural art, entertainment and catering. After implemention, it will become an ecological tourism brand at home and abroad and can further improve this city’s leisure connotation.

Apart from that, the improvement of ecological environment let Lhasa more fit for living. In recent years, with the accelerating pace of urban greening, the greenland coverage rate reaches 37.8%. In addition, wetlands are well protected and air pollution is controlled effectively. The coverage rate of public cultural service facilities is more and more high, enriching people's spare-time cultural life. Besides, the income gap between urban and rural people is narrowing. Various livelihood work including employment, education, medicine, culture, house, assistance and so on is carried out,  enhancing people's sense of belonging and happiness.
