There are a total of 47 natural conservationareas at all levels established in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, covering an area of 41.22 million hectares, including 22 ecological functional conservation zones, four national level scenic areas, nine national forest parks, ten national wetland parks and four geological parks. There are a total of 24 various kinds of wetland reserves, covering an area of 4.308 million hectares, which occupies 66 percent of the total natural wetland in Tibet.
Southeast Tibet Plateau's edge forest ecological function area as well as northwest Tibet Plateau's Qiangtang desert ecological function area have been included in the national main functional area ecperimental units. The integrated perservation capacity of ecological system has been constantly increasing, setting a great example as well as having significant driving effect. About 125 kinds of national key protected wildlives as well as 39 kinds of national key protected wild plants have received effective protection.
