Tibet to build protection system for left-behind children in rural areas

In order to strenghen the caring and protection work for left-behind children in rural areas as well as safeguard the lawful rights and interests of underage people, Tibet Autonomous Region shall build protection system for left-behind children in rural areas from seven aspects, such as family, education, judicature and so on.

According to statistics, the number of left-behind children in rural areas under 16 years old who do not live with their parents is 7,412 in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, including 5,023 children in Shigatse and Qamdo. In terms of age structure, the number of minors who are with the range of six years old to thirteen years old is 3,920, acounting for over half of the total number of left-behind children in rural areas.
