According to the State Grid Tibet Electric Power Company Limited, in 2016, Tibet's electricity consumption reached 4.18 billion kilowatt hour, increasing 21.78% year on year and hitting a record high. The increasing extent topped the list of the whole nation. The increasing speed of Chamdo City and Nagqu Prefecture exceeded 30%, while Nyingchi City and Ngari Prefecture exceeded 50%.

With the construction and operation of Qinghai-Tibet power grid and Sichuan-Tibet power grid, as well as the deep promotion of rural electric network, the electricity demand for Tibet's econmic and social development was fully meeted. The highest power load surpassed 970000 killowatt hour, making a new high in consecutive years and providing a solid power support for Tibet's economic and social development during the 13th Five Year Plan period.

By hanging on to good development opportunities, positively implementing national energy strategies and Tibet's work deployment, and vigorously carrying out the electric power replacement work, 142 million killowatt hour alternative electric was completed by the State Grid Tibet Electric Power Company Limited (the proportion overtopped the average level of state grid coverage areas ), playing a positively role for the huge growth of power consumption.
