Tibet's infrastructure construction investment is expected to reach 201.1 billion yuan in 2017. The investment focuses mainly on the improvement of livelihood, infrastructure, ecological environment, social management and featured industries. The projects will start building in the first half of 2017.

According to Jiang Taiqiang, vice director of the Development Reform Commission of Tibet Autonomous Region, in 2016, the Development Reform Commission of Tibet Autonomous Region played an initial role in investment. 95 percent of 1,996 subprojects has started building, leading to 161 billion yuan of social fixed asset investment, up 20 percent. National investment amounted to 134 billion yuan, while nongovernmental investment was 27 billion yuan.

In 2016, the construction of 318 water conservancy projects had restarted. 50 key irrigated areas, 22 urban levees and 10 projects of urban drinking water sources had begun building. Jiangbei irrigated area, Pengbo irrigated area, Yarlung, main stream of Lhasa River training works and other projects will be accelerated to implement. The drinking-water safety of 44,000 farmers and herdsmen gets improved. The early work of Xianghe hydro-junction project and supporting projects of irrigated area that will start building on the first half of 2017 has got developed.

In addition, Tibet Grid has been connected with all parts of country through Qinghai-Tibet Grid and Sichuan-Tibet Grid. The process of power grid construction in Tibet goes well. By the end of 2016, Tibet's total installed electricity-generating capacity had amounted to 265 kilowatts. Tibet's power generation reached 5.3 kwh. Its total electricity consumption was five billion kilowatt-hours.

In terms of transport, in 2016, the construction of 44 key road projects has been started and 82,500-kilometer road has been opened to the traffic. A total investment of 40.2 million yuan has been completed in fixed assets of transportation. 8.5 billion yuan has been poured into railway construction. At the moment, There are five airports (Lhasa Gonggar Airport, Shigatse Peace Airport, Nyingchi Menling Airport, Chamdo Bangda Airport and Nagri Gunsa Airport) in China's Tibet. Besides, nine airlines operate 71 routes in Tibet, connecting Tibet with 41 cities. 39,000 takeoffs and landings, and a combined 30,000 tons of cargo and mail were handled. The passenger throughput reached 4.05 million.  

What's more, Tibet's 684 towns have been connected with optical cable. All cities and counties have realized the full coverage of 3G Internet. 3,340 administrative villages have been covered by 3G mobile network. 70 Class-A scenic spots have been covered with mobile communication. More than 2,200 administrative villages have access to the Internet. All bordering counties and towns, border inspection stations and 780 border administrative villages have been covered with mobile communication. A series of items such as “smart public transport, smart tourism, smart medicine and smart education have been researched and carried out. Citizens could enjoy the fruits of the development of informatization.

The comprehensive transport system will get further improvement. Lhasa-Nyingchi High Grade Highway and Tsethang-Gonggar Airport High Grade Highway will be completed. Besides, the construction of other high grade highways and roads will start. The expantion of Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway and Qinghai-Tibet Railway will be accelerated. Tibet will complete the construction of smart towns, smart tourism and smart family.
